Founder & Chairman
Alex is a passionate advocate of social impact investing, which is driven in part by his experience as a founder of New Coast Ventures, a boutique venture capital fund focusing on early-stage investments in consumer internet, enterprise software, marketplaces, and mobile commerce.
New Coast Ventures offers targeted investment and a tailored suite of resources to help companies build, innovate, and grow. Alex founded NCF to bring this same approach to emerging nonprofit organizations working to alleviate poverty in Chicago and is responsible for directing the foundation’s vision and strategy.
Alex has advised, consulted, and served on the boards for the United Way Douglas County, Social Venture Partners–Chicago, and Kids Voting USA. He also serves on the Auxiliary Board of the Shedd Aquarium. As a philanthropist, he has provided both financial and capacity support to organizations within the U.S. and internationally.
Prior to starting his work with New Coast Ventures, he volunteered abroad in Ghana and Kenya assisting organizations in capacity-building initiatives ranging from development, program support, and long term strategic planning. He graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in Communications, Leadership Studies, and Entrepreneurship.
